About

Dorothea Suh is a Ph.D. candidate in ethnomusicology at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany.
Her dissertation explores the oral traditions of Korea, specializing in the socio-cultural influence, transcription and literary analysis.

Her fieldwork was conducted in 2011 at the Seoul National University and she was also a participant at the International Gugak Workshop for Internatl. Scholars at the National Gugak Center Korea in 2011.

Other interests include medieval songs, music of the renaissance and K-Pop.
She also writes (english, german, korean) for the Korea.net Blog and Seoul City Blog.

In 2010 she was awarded with the E.W. Kuhlmann Fellowship (Germany) and in 2012 with the AKS -Academy of Korean Studies- Fellowship (South Korea).

She holds a diploma in Violin Education and studied under Prof. Zakhar Bron and Prof. Grigory Zhislin.
